As a journalist/essayist for 20 years, I have reported and written on countless subjects and have had the privilege of interviewing all kinds of people, from political activists to landscape architects, bestselling novelists to corporate bankers, death row convicts to members of the Kennedy clan. A quick google search of my name will unearth a bewildering variety of penmanship-for-hire (because, face it, when you write for a living, you follow every lead and take every job you can get!). My overall favorite journalism job was a four-year stint writing the column called UNDERWHELMED for Baltimore CityPaper. My lovely editors there (first Andy Markowitz, then Lee Gardner) allowed me to cover any topic I wanted, in any proportion of political-to-personal. Sometimes this resulted in lots of angry letters to the editor, which was alarming and painful at first, but eventually became sort of fun. Everyone's got an opinion.... Finally, although I have no time to even think about pursuing my ancient desire to write fiction and creative nonfiction, I am always perpetually "in progress" (at least in my imagination) on some ambitious larger project or another. Maybe this whole music thing is just a crazy roundabout way of eventually landing a book deal? ... |
